0.58 W/kg (Watt per kilogram)

It continues to expand towards accessibility, which is very pleasant against the backdrop of acute and chronic financial crises. Mid-level smartphones suit the capabilities of most users, so what is happening in this niche should be constantly kept under review. LG K8– the device is quite bright and is perfect for those who are just gaining experience in mastering serious gadgets. And if this particular product is chosen to get acquainted with the catalog of smartphones, there is no doubt that the impression of it will remain good.

Optical miracle

Digital magic begins from the moment it is turned on, when a living logo appears before us and for some time it seems that the display occupies the entire front side. The device is equipped with Gorilla Glass 3 with smoothed edges, creating the so-called 2.5D effect. Thanks to the glass, a manual feeling of the thinness of the side edges is created Lji K8, although 8.7 mm thick is not the thinnest solution. The plastic case has a removable cover, under which lies a replaceable 2125 mAh battery.

The texture of the case resembles a high-quality woven fabric and this will not allow the device to simply slip out of the palm of your hand. The color of the device will be white and blue. On the back side there is a fingerprint sensor and a camera, designed as a complete unit.

Display

It is made using IPS In-Cell Touch technology. This means that touch recognition sensors are integrated with the matrix, due to which the display with a resolution of 1280x720p is thinner, and the displayed image is located as close to the surface as possible, so that it can be touched. In addition, the technology improves brightness, readability and viewing angle in sunlight. HD display diagonal 5 inches.

Equipment

Like many other devices in 2016, the LG K8 is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The main component of the device is a 64-bit MediaTek MT6735 chipset with 4 cores and 1.3 GHz. The RAM size of 1.5 GB means that fans of heavy simulators will have to limit themselves in some way, since many powerful games require a minimum of 2 GB. The built-in memory is designed for only 8 GB and, taking into account the space for pre-installed software, it will be reduced even more. Users will receive a pleasant bonus in the form of a slot for a memory card up to 32 GB.

The 8-megapixel main camera allows you to take pictures by voice command, and the 5-megapixel front camera allows for gesture control.

The LG K8 dual-SIM phone with a glossy pebble style and LTE support is likely to be welcomed not only by newbies, but also by connoisseurs of practical minimalism.

Nowadays, most buyers purchase inexpensive smartphones. Their popularity is explained by the fact that such devices have a beautiful design, all the functions necessary for a modern user, and acceptable “stuffing”. Their indisputable advantage, of course, is their low price. New items go on sale regularly. Each manufacturer annually updates its model range. LG was no exception. In 2016, the K-line was replenished with a new device. The model belongs to the budget segment. Equipped with a 5-inch display of good quality. It is based on a processor from the well-known company MediaTek. supplemented by one gigabyte of RAM. How did customers rate the new smartphone? Does it live up to the “smart choice at a decent price” claim? Let's figure it out.

Features of the package

The device is packaged in a branded box. It is decorated in a minimalist style. The name is printed in large letters on the front. At the bottom of the front panel there is a company logo. There are no more design elements. However, such simplicity and conciseness gives originality.

Customers had questions regarding the set of components. The manufacturer may make changes without notice, so in addition to the charger and USB cable, some also received headphones. All documentation is provided in the box. As for the memory card and case, you will have to purchase them additionally. Some users have had difficulties with the latter, since universal models are not suitable for smartphones due to the peculiarities of the location of the control buttons.

Appearance

The design direction that was used for the smartphone is called Glossy Pebble, which means glossy pebble. It was this solution that gave originality to the gadget. 2.5D glass adds sophistication and style to the appearance. It makes the phone look seamless. Some users noticed a certain similarity with Samsung devices.

The model range includes several color options for the LG K8 LTE: Black/Blue Indigo, White, Gold.

The back panel has a grooved surface that resembles a fabric texture. There are practically no fingerprints left on it and no scratches are formed. In this model, the manufacturer abandoned the standard arrangement of mechanical control keys. Now they are not on the side edge, but not on the back cover directly under the camera “window”.

User comments say that the manufacturer did not skimp on logos. One is located on the front side instead of the usual control panel. By the way, the latter was transferred to the screen. The second logo is located in the center of the back cover.

A few words about the assembly

Despite the fact that the price of the LG K8 LTE is low, the build quality is completely on par with expensive smartphones. Due to the fact that the phone has a removable battery, many buyers have doubts about whether the back cover is securely attached and whether it will not slip off. The smartphone body is assembled at a high level. No squeaks or crunches were noticed during operation. It is also worth noting that there is nothing loose in the phone, which is undoubtedly an advantage. It is important that even with a thorough inspection of the case, it is impossible to notice cracks and gaps. The whole structure looks monolithic.

Controls

The LG K8 LTE phone has one feature, which was already mentioned above. We are talking about the volume rocker and the lock key. Their location on the rear panel did not seem very convenient for many users, but it will not be difficult to get used to them. The developers did not use the side edges of the gadget, leaving them completely empty. It is, of course, difficult to judge convenience, since, on the one hand, many are already accustomed to a certain location, and such drastic changes cause some inconvenience, but on the other hand, the indisputable advantage is that the chosen location completely eliminates accidental pressing.

On the front panel, in addition to the large screen, there are other elements. We are talking about the front camera, speaker, proximity sensor. The sensors in the model are located closer to the left side. On black smartphones they are almost invisible, but on white phones they immediately catch the eye.

According to buyers, the manufacturer has overloaded the bottom end. There are mini-jack and micro-USB ports, as well as a microphone. The situation with the opposite end is the same as with the side faces.

LG K8 LTE: screen specifications

It's time to talk about the screen. This model uses a 5-inch display with standard characteristics. Matrix type - In-Cell Touch IPS. Maximum resolution - 1280x720 px. In principle, such characteristics are often found in budget devices, so they are unlikely to surprise anyone. However, despite the low performance, the picture quality is quite decent. The image looks juicy and rich. The brightness level is sufficient for comfortable work. Pixelation is invisible, as the density is 293 ppi.

Reviews about the screen

The screen of the LG K8 LTE is protected by glass 3. Reviews about it are not always flattering, since even with careful handling, small scratches form on it. But what is undoubtedly an advantage is the presence of anti-reflective and oleophobic coatings. There is no air layer between the glass and the display. This improves image quality, but if it breaks, it increases the cost of repairs.

The lack of additional screen settings caused heated discussions. By and large, there are no special comments about the colors, but I would like to be able to make changes, for example, to the temperature of the shades. Viewing angles are acceptable. Saturation and contrast are only reduced when tilted more than 100 degrees.

The screen's responsiveness is good, but some owners had problems with double taps. The function is unstable. The phone may respond only after the second attempt or may not recognize the touch at all.

Selfie camera: characteristics and reviews

When advertising this model, the manufacturer pays special attention to the capabilities of the front camera. And it’s worth noting that it’s not in vain. Although the matrix has a resolution of five megapixels, the pictures come out of pretty good quality. A virtual flash allows you to get good results. This decision undoubtedly deserves respect. The selfie camera does a great job even in low light. Photos have high levels of detail and clarity. The developers also provided a function that allows shooting with gestures. There are no comments about her work.

Main camera capabilities

In LG K8 LTE, the characteristics of the main camera are not inferior to the front one. The 8-megapixel sensor copes well with the tasks. In poor lighting, you can use the flash. Users rate the quality of shooting as 4 on a 5-point system. But it is worth noting that in the evening it is very difficult to get a clear photo. The slightest movement blurs the frame.

Hardware "stuffing"

The “heart” of the phone is the processor. The manufacturer assures that it uses energy efficiently. The chipset is based on four computing elements. The power of each reaches 1300 MHz. This kind of hardware is used by most companies to equip smartphones in the budget segment.

The coprocessor model did not come as a surprise to buyers. ARM Mali-T720 is also often installed on modern gadgets. The video card allows you to work with any type of graphic images. The operating memory of the LG K8 LTE is limited to one gigabyte. Unfortunately, such characteristics are not enough for the user to work with modern applications. If you increase the load on the processor, the phone immediately starts to freeze.

Buyers will not be pleased with the amount of integrated memory either. Currently, 16 GB is critically small for full-fledged work. The developers offer owners to expand the storage up to 32 GB by installing an external drive.

Specifications LG K8 LTE – K350E

The smartphone has a completely normal technical component, as for the most ordinary state employee.

Design, buttons, connectors and sensors

“You are greeted by your clothes”: LG is well acquainted with the first part of the old phrase. The appearance of the LG K8 is its main trump card. The front panel looks simply gorgeous, thanks to the 2.5D glass that blends seamlessly with the side ribs.

The glass, rounded at the edges, looks impressive and feels pleasant to the touch.

The back panel is practical and aesthetically successful at the same time. The matte cover has a ribbed patterned surface.

The smartphone fits comfortably in your hand, the back does not slip and does not collect fingerprints. As for the case materials, it is ordinary plastic. The model is available in the following colors: white, dark blue, and gold. The microphone hole, as well as MicroUSB and Audio Jack 3.5 mm connectors are located at the bottom end.

On the back panel, LG's signature immediately catches your eye. The power/lock and volume control buttons are located on one plate under the main camera. As a result, the side ends are free of buttons.

Some people like this solution, but others find it inconvenient. Fortunately, there is a Knock ON function that allows you to control the screen lock with a double tap on the touchscreen. Navigation buttons are located on the screen. The case weighs 140 g and has the following dimensions: 144.6 x 71.5 x 8.7 mm

CPU

The LG K8 K350E has a 64-bit processor from two years ago: MediaTek MT6735 (4 cores, 1.3 GHz). Nevertheless, this is a completely relevant solution, both in terms of performance and in other aspects (energy efficiency, network capabilities, etc.). Mali-T720 MP2 is used as a video accelerator. In the synthetic Antutu test, the smartphone scores around 30-31 thousand points.

According to the test result, MT6735 outperforms Snapdragon 410, its closest competitor from Qualcomm. As a result, the smartphone copes with ordinary tasks (watching videos, surfing the Internet, communicating on social networks) very easily. Resource-intensive 3D games are also not an impossible task for him. Adjusted for disabling some visual effects and reducing texture detail for the sake of a stable FPS.

Memory

The amount of RAM is somewhat confusing: 1 GB. Of course, this is enough to ensure acceptable performance and the ability to run several applications simultaneously. However, given the price, you expect more from the device than 240 MB of free space in RAM at system startup. Fans of multitasking will have to constantly monitor the number of running processes.

Otherwise, switching between applications again, any of them may fly out of the cache. And then restarting the program again is inevitable. Users who do not need to keep many applications running in the background will not feel any discomfort.

Well, at least the main storage capacity is adequate: 16 GB. Minus system needs, almost 11 GB remains free. For the average user this is quite enough. LG firmware always lacks the ability to install any applications or games on a memory card. Therefore, a MicroSD flash drive (supports up to 32 GB) can only be used for music, movies, images and other things.

Autonomous operation

Operating experience with the LG K8 K350E teaches you how to save money. If you want the device to work from morning to evening, you will have to save on everything. Use the Internet less, limit the maximum brightness level, lower the volume of the speakers, turn off WiFi whenever possible. There are energy saving settings from LG: they will become the best friend for the smartphone owner. However, a careful approach to the intensity of use of the device will ensure operation for 24 hours, this is the maximum.

Why is this happening? Perhaps this is due to the low battery capacity. The removable battery is labeled “2045 mAh,” although the manufacturer’s website states 2125 mAh. On the other hand, there are smartphones with more powerful hardware and a simpler battery. But they work just as well on a single charge, or even a little longer. There is reason to believe that the problem lies in software flaws.

Camera

The main 8-megapixel camera is very simple in every sense. Even the shooting application interface contains a minimum of settings. Flash and autofocus available. The best photos are taken on a sunny day. At the same time, the edges of the image become blurry, and distant objects merge into mush. Only objects at the closest possible distances receive an acceptable level of detail.

Unfortunately, those who like to photograph landscapes will not like the camera. But its capabilities are enough for the job: make a photo note, take a photo of text, schedule, etc. The device copes well with macro photography.

Video recording can be done in 1080p resolution at 30 fps. The quality of the videos is not outstanding.Using the selfie camera, you can take photos with a resolution of 5 MP or record FullHD video. There is an analogue of a flash (a bright white background of the display around the image), and shooting by hand gesture. The quality of the resulting images is mediocre, but not the worst.

Display

LG K8 K350E is equipped with an In-Cell Touch IPS display. Its diagonal is 5”, HD resolution (1280 x 720), resulting in a pixel density of 293 ppi. There are no complaints about the quality, color rendition and contrast of the image. The maximum brightness level is average, enough for walking outside in sunny weather. There is no automatic brightness adjustment. It’s not critical, but there are people who are used to constantly using this feature. Viewing angles are good, although not maximum.

Networking capabilities

Two nanoSIM slots are located under a removable cover. Possible to work in 2G/3G and 4G FDD LTE networks. The WiFi module operates in the 24 GHz band, Bluetooth version is 4.1. The GPS module is responsible for navigation; A-GPS is supported. All means of communication work stably and uninterruptedly.

Sound

The multimedia speaker is located at the bottom of the rear panel. It has an average volume, sufficient for most usage scenarios. The sound quality is normal. The speaker pleased us with its high volume and lack of interference.

Software part

The installed Android OS version is 6.0 Marshmallow. As usual, LG installs its own skin on its smartphones. It features a beautiful, fast and flexible interface, as well as additional features like Knock ON.

Advantages and disadvantages

Pros:

  • good design;
  • current version of the operating system.

Minuses:

  • mediocre autonomy;
  • Not enough RAM considering the price;
  • weak main camera.

Who is a smartphone suitable for?

The main target audience is housewives, as well as undemanding users who devote a maximum of 1 hour per year to studying mobile technologies and the pricing policies of manufacturers. And the words “China” are feared like fire. First of all, the LG K8 will attract you with its pleasant appearance, the famous logo on the front panel, a one-year warranty and a relatively reasonable price tag. Upon closer acquaintance, you will be interested in its rather large display with rich colors, sufficient performance in the interface and applications, and support for 2 SIM cards.

Our review of the LG K8 K350E smartphone

Externally, the smartphone leaves a very positive impression: on display it immediately catches your eye. And when you pick it up and turn on the screen, the delight is complemented by the cute interface of the still fresh OS. However, the rest of the famous proverb says: “... but they see off according to their minds.” Actually, the technical component of the device speaks for itself.

There is no point in scolding the device for its shortcomings and price, due to the specifics of the audience it is aimed at. Summing up the results of this review, I would like to warn against rash actions of those who expect something more from the LG K8 K350E than from a regular budget smartphone.
